Position Summary

The Ed Rachal Foundation is seeking a highly analytical and detail-oriented Forensic Accountant to oversee financial integrity, regulatory compliance, and investigative accounting functions. This role is responsible for examining financial records, identifying irregularities, strengthening internal controls, and ensuring the accuracy and transparency of the Foundation’s financial operations. In addition to forensic and investigative work, the position plays a key role in financial reporting, audit coordination, and supporting executive leadership with strategic financial analysis and risk management.


Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed examinations and analyses of financial records, transactions, and supporting documentation to identify discrepancies, irregularities, or potential fraud.
  • Monitor and evaluate internal controls, recommending and implementing improvements to strengthen financial accountability and reduce organizational risk.
  • Oversee the preparation and review of financial statements, reconciliations, and accounting records to ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including review of journal entries and general ledger activity.
  • Coordinate and support internal and external audits, ensuring all required documentation is accurate, complete, and readily available.
  • Investigate unusual financial activity and prepare detailed reports of findings for executive leadership.
  • Analyze financial data, trends, and operational processes to identify areas for increased efficiency and improved financial oversight.
  • Support the development and administration of budgets, forecasts, and long-term financial planning initiatives.
  • Review grants, contracts, and financial agreements to ensure compliance with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and enforce accounting policies and procedures while promoting best practices in financial management.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, tax regulations, and other applicable federal and state requirements.
  • Collaborate with leadership on financial strategy, risk assessment, and special projects impacting the Foundation’s operations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality while handling sensitive financial, legal, and organizational information.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • CPA, CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner), or other relevant professional certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in forensic accounting, auditing, financial investigations, public accounting, or financial management.
  • Strong knowledge of forensic accounting principles, internal controls, fraud detection, financial reporting, and audit procedures.
  • Experience with nonprofit organizations, private foundations, trusts, or investment entities is highly desirable.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software systems.
  • Exceptional analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial information and communicate findings clearly to executive leadership and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work independently while managing multiple priorities.
