Thompson Hine LLP, an AmLaw 200 firm, is globally recognized for business innovation. Due to exciting firm growth, we are seeking an Accounting Manager to join our Cleveland office. This Accounting Manager will apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information, prepare financial reports and analyze results. Perform accounting functions of maintaining the general ledger, preparing financial statements, preparing budgets and forecasts. This position will require quality, timely and accurate financial reporting. Serve as backup for Controller functions.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform accounting functions including maintaining the general ledger, preparing monthly preliminary financial reports, preparing financial statements, monthly budget reports and general ledger account analysis.
- Responsible for preparing and reviewing audit support schedules. Work closely with the Controller in preparing the annual audited financial statements along with the notes and supporting schedules.
- Gather financial information and prepare support schedules for the Firm’s external CPAs to prepare the federal, states and local tax returns and partner K-1 packages. Assist the Controller with reviewing tax returns and K-1s.
- Prepare quarterly estimated state and local tax payments and transfer requests.
- Manage the Staff Accountant and the Accounting Coordinator and their functional areas.
- Assist the Controller with the preparation of the annual budget and quarterly forecasts.
- Analyze balance sheet transactions, research, and make corrections. Follow-up with other Finance personnel to ensure account reconciliations are completed in a timely manner.
- Prepare various quarterly and annual industry and government surveys.
- Work with the Payroll department and Controller to update partner monthly and quarterly draw schedules.
- Maintain equipment leases files & submissions. Submit quarterly lease requests with summary form and supporting invoice copies.
- Prepare financial package and Controller's memo for distribution to the partners.
- Prepare portions of and assemble book highlighting monthly results. Distribute to the Executive Committee and other key management personnel.
- Calculate and file property tax returns and other business returns.
- Complete fixed asset reporting and prepare summary reports and budget reporting.
- Create, maintain, and update applicable policies and procedures.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting required.
- At least 6-10 years of related accounting experience is required.
- Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant or equivalent experience preferred but not required.
- Experience with federal, state & local taxes preferred but not required.
- Prior experience working in a law firm preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of U.S. accounting principles and practices.
- Strong systems and analysis skills.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, work additional hours during certain times of the month, quarter and during the annual year-end close and tax preparation period of January through April.
- Ability and willingness to take ownership of tasks and work extra hours to meet deadlines.
- Ability to handle confidential matters.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong abilities with Microsoft products, especially Excel.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Excellent attention to details.
- Excellent customer service skills and telephone etiquette are mandatory.
- Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.
- Possesses interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate and follow instructions effectively from a diverse group of clients, attorneys, and staff and is a team player.

Compensation is determined upon the market in which the position is located, the responsibilities of the position, the experience and skills of the applicant, and other job-related factors. The estimated salary range for this Cleveland position is $114,500 to $143,000.
